Verdict
The TOZO Open EarRing earbuds continue the trend of open ear earbuds and offer a surprisingly good price considering their price. The mobile app is also easy to use and offers some good sound customisation options. Other earbuds do sound better, but then again they're far more expensive too. If getting the most bang for your buck is important to you then you can't go far wrong with these.
The Good
- Comfortable fit
- Impressive sound quality for the price
The Bad
- touch controls can be a bit fiddly
- Not much else at this price
Design & Fit
The Tozo Open Earring earbuds are easy to put on your ears thanks to their flexible design. They don’t fall off your ears once worn either, despite my best efforts. They also only weigh 5g each so you can hardly tell that you’re even wearing them. The clip-on design also makes them ideal for listening to music when you’re wearing glasses or sunglasses as they don’t get in the way of the glasses arms.
These comes in a small case that’s super easy for putting in your pocket, which is a surprise as open ear earbud cases are often quite large. The case also charges via the USB-C port on the back .
The case is also equipped with an LED display on the front that is actually useful as it quickly lets you know how charged not only the case, but also each earbud are.
Controls
Controlling the Tozo Open Earring earbuds is done through either a double click, triple click, or a long press, on the back of the earbuds. Each action can also be changed in the Tozo mobile app.
Battery Life
A full charge of these earbuds provides 10 hours of battery life, which increases to 40 hours if you include the case.
The Mic
You can also use these to take a call if you need to. They’re not great though. I certainly wouldn’t use them as my main earbuds for talking a call, but they’re good enough for an ad-hoc call or two.
The Sound
The Tozo Open Earring earbuds are driven my a 12mm driver, the out-of-the-box sound is fairly flat and uninspiring. Fortunately you can use the Tozo mobile app to change the EQ to make them sound a lot better.
The app comes with 32 EQ presets and a 10-band custom EQ so that you can tailor the sound to your liking. There’s even a community tab in the mobile app where people can share their EQ’s with others. The one I used for testing is available via the QR code below.
Once you EQ these they sound good, especially for the price. There’s a bit of bass but it’s not overpowering. A pair of open ear earbuds is never going to have bone-rattling bass due to their open design so the amount of bass on display here is more than what I would expect. The treble itself is okay, if nothing exception. You don’t get the level of detail that you get from more expensive earbuds, but it at least isn’t fatiguing or tiring on the ears.
Should you buy them?
If you’re after a pair of open-ear earbuds and you don’t want to spend a lot of money then I really don’t think you can go far wrong with the Tozo Open Earring earbuds. They don’t sound as good as more expensive earbuds, but for only $50 these are really comfy to wear, have great battery life, and are just nice to listen to.
