The Design
The new Q3FC3 facial interface for the Meta Quest 3, and Quest 3S, is AMVR’s latest update in their line of accessories for Meta’s headsets, and sees it gain several updates over previous versions.
The air vents in the top of the facial interface have been redesigned for better cooling. They also reduce the amount of light that gets through. This is a common complaint of many facial interfaces that have cooling vents. Vents in the side also let cool air in whilst hot air is released from the top. The Q3FC3 not only does a good job of keeping you cool, but it’s great at blocking out light too! The nose guard has been redesigned too so that it blocks out more light than previous versions.
AMVR’s previous facial interface wasn’t compatible with the official Meta charging dock. The improved, redesigned, nose guard on the Q3FC3, has fixed this issue.
You can easily change the distance between your eyes and the lenses of your headset thanks to the adjustment dials on either side of the facial interface. This provides 9 micro adjustments so you can find the distance that’s perfect for you. This is a great improvement as on previous versions you had to 4 different sliders and so this is a lot easier.
The Issue
Now whilst the design changes are all great improvements, there is one design aspect that has persisted from previous versions, which is both a pro and a con.
The bar across the top of the facial interface is taller than normal. This is great if you have an elite style head strap as that helps to distribute the weight of the headset across your forehead. It almost acts like an integrated Halo forehead head strap integrated into your facial interface which makes it more comfortable to play for longer gaming sessions.
However, if you have a Halo style head strap then you can run into issues with the taller facial interface conflicting with the forehead bar on the Halo head strap. Now I haven’t had any problems with this but I’ll put that down to having a big head as can set both up such that both halo head strap and facial interface act as a large combined forehead bar to spread the weight evenly across my head, and it works really well. I can however understand why you might have issues if you have a smaller heads and si it is something that you need to be mindful if you’re considering buying this facial interface and you already have, or are planning on getting, a halo style head strap.
Comfort
The AMVR Q3FC3 facial interface comes with two different face pads.
PU leather covers one of the face pads making it nice and easy to wipe down and keep clean. The other offers a more breathable ‘ice cool’ cotton covering that also comes with a cool memory gel inside to help keep you cool for longer. It does soak up any sweat, but you can easily wash it ready to use again.
Both were comfortable to wear and I found the design of the facial interface to suit my face well. There was no light leakage in from the sides, nor any pressure points either. It was just very comfortable to wear.
Should you buy it?
So overall I found this a very comfortable facial interface to wear, and the improvements to the adjustability, air flow, and light leakage reduction, just makes this an even more compelling purchase than their previous versions. So for those looking to make their Meta Quest 3 more comfortable so they can play for longer, the AMVR Q3FC3 facial interface is a great buy, and at only $36 isn’t going to break the bank either.
