Why Most Portable Monitors Miss the Mark
Before diving into what makes this monitor special, it’s worth understanding why so many portable monitors feel like afterthoughts. Most suffer from dim screens that wash out under office lighting, flimsy construction that feels like it might snap if you look at it wrong, and stands that seem designed by someone who’s never actually used a laptop. The result? You end up with a “second screen” that’s more frustration than functionality.
The SOTSU Difference
Unlike cheaper plastic monitors that flex and wobble, the solid aluminium construction of the FlipAction Go 14 provides a rock-solid build that not only looks great but also feels solid too. It’s the kind of build quality that makes you confident about throwing it in your bag to take with you on your travels.

The design philosophy feels distinctly Apple-inspired, but in the best possible way. It’s clean, purposeful, and doesn’t scream “cheap tech accessory” when sitting on your desk or in a client meeting.
Four Ways to Work Better
The attention to detail doesn’t just stop at the build quality either, but also in how it’s actually used. It shows that SOTSU have put some serious thought into the design of this monitor. Not only can the stand that is built into the back of the monitor pivot so that it can be positioned in either landscape or portrait mode, but it can also be magnetically attached to its matching separate monitor stand. Combined, this then provides four distinct positioning modes. Portrait and landscape modes, in both high and low positions. The monitor can also be angled to your preference also. The high landscape mode positioned the FlipAction Go 14 perfectly above my Macbook Air 15, creating a natural extension of my workspace.

If you’re working on long documents, code, or simply trying to follow a Discord chat? Well you can simply flip it into portrait mode and suddenly you can see entire pages without scrolling. That flexibility extends to any work environment – whether you’re at a cramped coffee shop table or a spacious home office, you’ll find a position that works.
The combination of the magnetic stand and pivoting bracket on the rear of the FlipAction Go 14 make it not just a versatile portable monitor, but a versatile portable monitor that is actually easy to use as well. There’s not many other options out there that I think could say the same.
A Screen That Actually Impresses
Versatility is great, but the screen needs to match that to make it a monitor that you actually want to use, and SOTSU certainly isn’t pulling any punches here either. The FlipAction Go 14’s display is genuinely impressive – bright, clear, and with colors that look natural rather than oversaturated or washed out, and with text that is crisp and easy to read too. That’s all a welcome relief if you’re spending hours staring at spreadsheets or documents.
What makes this possible is the combination of 100% sRGB color accuracy, that 1200:1 contrast ratio, and full HD resolution packed into the 14-inch display. This ensures colors are bright, detailed, and accurate. Whilst the 400 nits of brightness means you won’t be squinting at a dim screen, even in bright offices or near windows. So your eyes stay comfortable, and your work stays productive. In my testing I never needed it at peak brightness, and that was with a window directly behind me on a well-lit day.
The 60Hz refresh rate for the screen might not satisfy the die-hard gamer (although SOTSU do have a larger 16” model that has 120Hz refresh rate for that) but it’s more than enough to ensure smooth scrolling and a flicker-free display for productivity, day-to-day tasks, and even the casual game or two.
So whether you’re editing photos, reviewing presentations, or even taking a gaming break, everything looks good, and feels fluid.
Designed for Real Travel

The real genius of this monitor becomes apparent when it’s time to pack up. The monitor stand easily detaches from the monitor, as it’s magnetic, and then folds completely flat. It can then magnetically attach, flat-packed, to the back of the monitor, and slide into the provided neoprene sleeve. The end result? The thinnest complete portable monitor solution I’ve ever seen!
This isn’t just convenient; it’s transformative for mobile productivity. You can genuinely throw this in any laptop bag alongside your computer and forget it’s there until you need it. No more choosing between productivity and portability.
Connection Versatility
The rear of the monitor provides dual USB-C and HDMI ports so you’re covered regardless of your setup. The monitor also comes with a power passthrough port which allows the monitor to power not only itself, but also to charge any attached laptop. That’s great for when you want to keep the number of cables you have to carry around with you to a minimum.
For those times when you don’t have a power outlet handy, the monitor can also draw power directly from your laptop instead. That flexibility lets you easily switch between minimal setup or maximum power.
Complimenting Your Work Life
So this all wraps up into a complete package that for many is going to make a big difference to how they work. If you’re a consultant moving between client offices, a freelancer working from various locations, or simply someone who wants a better home office setup without the permanent footprint, the FlipAction Go 14 delivers.
It’s equally valuable for creative work where color accuracy matters, or development work where having code on one screen and documentation on another saves countless hours of window switching.

Final Thoughts
At $269 for the monitor and an additional $69 for the stand, this isn’t the cheapest portable monitor out there, but it is one of the best looking, both from a screen and appearances perspective, that I’ve ever seen.
For me, the SOTSU FlipAction Go 14 succeeds because it solves real problems rather than just trying to come in at the cheapest price. The thoughtful design and build and screen quality all add up to a portable monitor that makes a genuine difference to how I work. It doesn’t just give me more screen space, it makes me more productive.
If you’ve been frustrated by the limitations of working on a single-screen laptop, or disappointed by other portable monitors, this one is seriously worth considering. It’s not perfect – some users will want the larger FlipAction Pro 16 for more screen real estate and a higher refresh rate – but for balancing portability, functionality and affordability, it’s difficult to find fault.
The SOTSU FlipAction Go 14 proves that portable monitors don’t have to be compromises.
